At 10Bit, we are embarking on a journey to foster innovation, creativity, and community like never before. With our new system aimed at giving greater control of functional areas to the members who use them, we aim to give the power to the people!
The Benefits of Maker Managed Functional Areas
Enhanced Member Involvement: By empowering members to take the reins of their functional areas, we're creating a more dynamic, member-driven environment. This approach encourages active participation and ensures that the resources and activities available directly reflect the interests and needs of our community.
Increased Creative Freedom: With the autonomy to propose quarterly budgets, manage equipment maintenance, and organize educational events, members can tailor their spaces to best support their creative endeavors. This flexibility means that whether you're a woodworker, a budding entrepreneur, or a ceramics enthusiast, you have the freedom to shape your creative journey and facilitate the journey of the folks who share your passion.
Financial Incentives: Functional areas reap 100% of the profits from classes they provide. This not only serves as a fantastic incentive for members to share their skills and knowledge but also helps sustain and grow their areas of interest.
Comprehensive Support: While the new system emphasizes member control, the board remains committed to providing robust support, including website assistance, enforcement of behavioral standards, facilities maintenance, and administrative aid. This balanced approach ensures that each functional area has a strong foundation to thrive upon. I highlight behavioral standards because enforcement of our standards of membership has often taken a backseat to putting out the daily fires associated with managing such a varied and complex space. With functional areas, we will have greater bandwidth to be the parents while enabling our functional leads to be the fun aunt/uncle! Our #1 priority for 2024 is to bring an end to members having to clean up after someone else in order to work on their own projects. With your help, we can make this a reality.
